  • Title: Carlow Garden Festival 21st July – 30th July 2017
  • Venue: Carlow
  • Start Date/Time: 21/07/2017, 14:30
  • Details: Here in Ireland, we like to complain about the rain – and to be fair, it does rain quite often – but the redeeming feature of our much-maligned damp, mild weather is that we have the perfect climate for a wide range of beautiful plants, from the ornamental to the edible! That’s one of the reasons why we have a long tradition of both formal and informal gardens on our emerald isle, and why even amateur gardeners can achieve fantastic results, regardless of how much, or how little, garden they have at their disposal. In Carlow, our gardens are green all year, and never lovelier than at this time of year. If you have a green thumb, or if you just like plants and the outdoors, pencil from this Friday until Sunday 30th July into your diary, because we are going to be hosting our annual Carlow Garden Festival, showcasing some of the county’s loveliest gardens, and presentations and talks by a range of well-known gardening experts from both Ireland and the UK. The festival is perfect for those who already have a lot of experience with gardening, and those who dabble and would like to know more. With events kicking off this weekend and plans well underway, tickets are selling out fast, so if you would like to join us, now is the time to get yourself organised for one of the top Irish gardening events of the year. The gardening and botanical experts who are featuring in this year’s festival include: Melissa Doran, an award-winning botanical artist, who can take you on a nature walk and help you to learn how to draw directly from nature; Ireland’s own Dermot O’Neill and Jimi Blake; Chelsea Flower Show gold medal winner Mary Reynolds; UK gardening experts Monty Don, Jane Fearnley-Whittingstall, Joe Swift and Roy Lancaster; and Irish Park Superintendent of the Office of Public Works, Paul McDonnell. For those with a special interest in producing their own food, we have talks by James Wong about growing delicious vegetables and other edibles. For a full list of presenters and exhibitors, please see here. http://carlowtourism.com/carlow-garden-festival-21st-july-30th-july-2017/ If you are from the south-east of Ireland, you already know how gorgeous Carlow’s gardens are during the summer season – if you’re not, this summer is the perfect time to see for yourself, and to learn how to recreate some of that gorgeousness in your own patch of heaven outdoors. If you need any advice, or help organising your trip, please get in touch with us at Carlow Tourism at: 059-9130411 or This email address is being protected from spambots. Rich in symbolism the piece was created by Peadar Lamb, an artist working primarily in the medium of stained glass for over twenty years, using hand-made glass and a variety of techniques which have changed little over the centuries. Public Consultation regarding Hope Castle 19thJuly

Public Consultation regarding Hope Castle 19thJuly

PUBLIC CONSULTATION - HOPE CASTLE & STABLE BUILDINGS/ANNEXE LOUGH MUCKNO – FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

Wednesday, 19th July from 4-7pm

The Lough Muckno site is a significant one, with its historic landscaped parklands and culturally important buildings - in particular, Hope Castle and the Stable Buildings/Annexe that are now in disrepair, having been previously used for a variety of purposes.  The broader site also has a well-deserved reputation as a leisure amenity that is much used and appreciated by the local community.

In this context, Monaghan County Council has commissioned CHL Consulting Ltd and Howley Hayes Conservation Architects to assess the potential to redevelop and find sustainable uses for both Hope Castle and the Annexe/Stable Buildings. The work relates only to the named buildings and not to the broader parkland, although the context of the historic landscape will be taken into account as part of the review.

As part of the work, we are inviting you, as members of the local community, to share your opinions with regard to the buildings.  If you would like to contribute your ideas to the project, there are two ways in which you can do so.  Firstly, the short questionnaire (see below link
or attached document) can be completed and returned directly to CHL Consultants (contact details are on the form) anytime up to the 4th August 2017.

Alternatively, CHL Consultants in conjunction with Monaghan County Council will be available for an Open Session at the Muckno Gate Lodge on Wednesday, 19th July, between 4.00pm and 7.00pm, where you can drop in, collect a copy of the questionnaire and/or talk to us directly.  We appreciate your participation on this important project.

Monaghans Eye in the Sky

Monaghans Eye in the Sky

Monaghan County Council have recently installed a new permanent webcam overlooking the Diamond area in Monaghan Town. Live footage from the webcam can be viewed via our website at the following link: https://monaghan.ie/monaghan-web-cam/

As I hope you agree, the Diamond looks spectacular and as you can see preparations are well underway for the annual Country Music Festival taking place this weekend in the town. Feel free to share this link with all your friends and family especially those aboard so that they can see a little piece of home, or even for you just to keep an eye on the festival from the comfort of your own armchair!

We will also be advertising this link via our Social Media outlet (e.g. Facebook and Twitter) so likes, share and re-tweets would be greatly appreciated.

For Data Protection reasons this is just a live stream and is not being recorded, no sound is available but you can have great fun guessing what song is being played at the Country Music Festival by the pace and rhythm of the jivers! 07 2017
